Stalać Fortress

Stalać Fortress is a stronghold built on a hillside overlooking where the South and West Morava rivers meet. The stone walls and towers that remain allow visitors to understand how the structure was positioned to survey the land below.

The fortress was built in the second half of the 1300s by order of a regional ruler. It was part of the defense strategy for the Balkans during that era of change.

The remains shape how the landscape is viewed and serve as a place where visitors can understand the medieval past of the region. Many come here to see what military architecture of that era looked like.

Access is by way of marked trails that lead to the ruins. The location sits on a hill, so expect slopes and wear appropriate footwear for walking on uneven ground.

The location where multiple rivers meet made it unusually hard to attack the stronghold from certain directions. This natural protection was one of the main reasons this exact spot was chosen.
