Ruines des monastères de la Métropole et de l'Annonciation

These monastery ruins sit along the Mlava River's right bank and display partially preserved walls with visible stone foundations. The remains reveal the original building layouts even though only fragments survive from the medieval structures.

These monasteries were built in the late 14th century as part of a fortified defense network with watchtowers. They protected the medieval town of Ždrelo alongside other fortification works in the area.

The two churches show different layouts and served distinct purposes within the monastic community. Visitors can see how monks organized their spiritual and daily activities across the separate stone structures.

The site is accessible from Petrovac na Mlavi via marked walking paths through the gorge. Visiting the nearby active Gornjak Monastery complex can provide additional context about monastic traditions and regional history.

Carved into the gorge's rock face are caves containing a three-level hermitage system built into the stone. This underground complex even housed a bakery and ceramic workshop to meet the monks' daily needs.
