Borkovac, lake
Borkovac is a reservoir in the Srem region of southern Serbia, created in 1970 when a dam was built on the local stream. The body of water spans about 42 hectares with an average depth of 5 meters (16 feet), surrounded by flat terrain dotted with trees and shrubs.
The reservoir was created artificially in the 1970s to provide irrigation for agriculture in the area. Over time, it transformed from a purely functional structure into a popular destination for fishing, swimming, and leisure activities.
The name Borkovac comes from the local stream that flows through the area. Today, visitors experience a place where anglers, hikers, and families gather to spend time by the water and enjoy the flat landscape.
The lake is easily accessible by a good asphalt road from the town of Ruma, with parking available near the beach area. There are no extensive facilities on-site, so visitors should bring their own drinks, food, and picnic supplies for comfort.
The lake features an unusual accommodation option: four cottages built on floating barge platforms that allow guests to sleep directly on the water. Equipped with small electric boats and furnished with terraces, they offer a rare chance to be completely surrounded by water.
