Kapetanovo Castle

Kapetanovo Castle is a Neo-Gothic mansion near Stari Lec with distinctive architectural features. The structure has high gables on three sides with stepped edges, pointed arch windows in the Gothic style, and a tall square tower topped with serrated crenellations.

The castle was built in 1904 by the local county administrator Béla Botka. Ownership transferred in 1938 when merchant Franc Maj acquired it as a dowry gift for his daughter's marriage.

The building demonstrates how wealthy landowners expressed their status and power through ambitious architecture in the early 1900s. Recreating medieval forms was a fashionable way for the prosperous to showcase their standing in society.

The property sits about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) southwest of Stari Lec village along a major road and is straightforward to reach. Today it operates as a restaurant with lodging available for visitors seeking food and accommodation.

Workers have reported unusual discoveries on the grounds connected to a tragic event from the late 1930s. These local stories add a personal and haunting dimension to the site beyond its physical structure.
