Memorial Ossuary Mačkov kamen, Military memorial in Crnča Ljubovija, Serbia.
Memorial Ossuary Mačkov kamen is a military memorial in Crnča near Ljubovija, Serbia, designed with architecture that resembles an inverted poppy flower. The structure rises prominently against the mountain landscape and houses the remains of 87 partisans from World War II.
The memorial was built between 1976 and 1979 by architects Ljubomir Denkovic and Savo Subotin to house remains of fighters from the World War II era. Its construction decades after the war represented a formal recognition of these fallen individuals.
The site serves as a center for annual remembrance ceremonies where families and veterans gather to honor those who died in conflict.
The memorial can be reached via the regional road from Ljubovija toward Mali Zvornik, with parking available at the site. The best time to visit is outside the hottest months, as the mountain location offers limited shade.
Four of the six original bronze plaques were stolen during the 1990s but were later recovered and reinstalled at the monument. This restoration makes the memorial a symbol of resilience against loss and damage during a tumultuous period.
