Donja Branjevina

Donja Branjevina, Neolithic archaeological site near Deronje, Serbia.

Donja Branjevina is a Neolithic site between Deronje village and the Danube River, where dense oak forests cover ancient structures and artifacts. The excavations reveal layered settlements that show how people lived during early times.

The site was established during the Neolithic period and shows multiple settlement phases with evidence of early farming and technical progress. This development shaped Southeast European societies over many generations.

The Red-haired Goddess statue reflects how early inhabitants understood fertility and spiritual life through combined male and female symbols. Visitors can sense this connection between daily survival and belief through the artifacts displayed in the museum.

The findings are displayed in the Odžaci Museum and can be visited to see the artifacts up close. Plan your visit in advance to check opening hours and make the most of the nearby region.

White-painted pottery with hunting scenes was uncovered here, revealing the artistic expression of the earliest inhabitants. Bone fishing hooks and harpoons also remind us of the community's dependence on the river.
