Bođani monastery

Bođani monastery is a monastic complex in Bač featuring a Baroque church at its center with residential buildings arranged in the shape of the Cyrillic letter П. A garden surrounds the entire layout and completes the architectural composition.

The monastery was established in 1478 when a Dalmatian merchant founded it following a significant personal event. The 1730s marked a turning point when the interior was decorated with artistic works that transformed its appearance.

The painted biblical scenes inside the church show a distinctive artistic approach that draws visitors' attention to the spiritual purpose of the space. This artwork shapes how people experience the interior and creates a sense of sacred meaning.

The monastery is located in the Bačka region and welcomes visitors interested in its architecture and artistic interior. Visitors should wear modest clothing and be aware that religious services take place regularly, affecting access to certain areas.

The monastery garden contains more than 150 plant varieties from different continents, including Egyptian cedar species. This botanical collection shows how the site became a place where distant plant species coexist in one location.
