Sotin

Sotin is a small settlement positioned on a loess plateau at Popino Brdo in Vukovar-Srijem County. The location sits on elevated ground overlooking the Danube River, surrounded by farmland that stretches across the landscape.

The settlement was established as the Roman fort Cornacum in the 1st century, serving as a strategic military outpost on the Danube frontier. This location was crucial for controlling trade and maintaining security along this important river route.

Archaeological excavations in Sotin revealed artifacts from multiple civilizations, including the Pannonian Kornakata tribe and late La Tène culture settlements.

The settlement is small and compact, with basic local infrastructure connected to the nearby administrative center of Vukovar. The best time to explore is during warmer months when the landscape and river views are most welcoming.

Archaeological excavations have uncovered remains from multiple civilizations, including artifacts from the Pannonian Kornakata tribe and late La Tène culture settlements. Two Roman-era camps were linked by an ancient road and feature a distinctive double ditch system with a V-shaped profile.
