Stefan Nemanja Monument, Bronze monument at Sava Square, Belgrade, Serbia
The Stefan Nemanja Monument is a 23.5-meter (77-foot) bronze statue in Belgrade, Serbia. The figure shows the medieval ruler holding a sword and a charter for Hilandar monastery.
Russian sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov created the work to honor the founder of medieval Serbia. It was unveiled in January 2021.
The monument represents the transformation of Serbian society from tribal groups into a unified nation through Stefan Nemanja's leadership and military achievements.
The square is easily reached by several tram and bus lines, including routes 2, 7, 9, 11, and 12. The area sits close to the riverfront and works well as part of a walk through the city center.
Church bells across the city rang at the same time during the unveiling, creating a musical tribute. This coordinated ringing happened for the first time in Belgrade in that way.
