Krasnogorsk, Administrative center in Moscow Oblast, Russia
Krasnogorsk is an administrative center in Moscow Oblast, Russia, spreading northwest of the capital. The town sits along the Moskva River and connects residential areas with industrial zones and green spaces along the waterfront.
The settlement emerged in 1932 as an industrial site and gained town status in 1940. After World War II it developed into a center for optical manufacturing and mechanical production.
The name comes from the Russian word for red hill, reflecting the landscape along the riverbank. Today residents use the waterfront parks for walking and the squares in residential districts for markets and gatherings.
The Myakinino metro station connects the town directly with Moscow and sits at the edge of the urban area. Much of the residential districts can be reached on foot, while buses run to the more distant industrial zones.
A factory here produced Zorki and Zenit cameras until the 1990s, which were widely used across the Soviet Union. Some old factory buildings still stand and show the town's former industrial character.
