Krasnoturyinsk, Industrial settlement in northern Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia
Krasnoturyinsk is a city in the northern part of Sverdlovsk Oblast in Russia, extending along the Turya River. The surroundings are characterized by forested hills and low mountain ranges that follow the river valley.
The settlement began in 1758 as a copper mining site named Turyinskiye Rudniki and grew with the expansion of mining operations. In 1944 it received its current name and was officially declared a city.
The city's bandy team draws hundreds of spectators regularly to a large indoor arena in the center, where matches take place on ice. Game days bring together residents of different ages who share a passion for this traditional Russian winter sport during competitions.
The city connects to Yekaterinburg by regional bus routes, about 350 kilometers to the south. Travelers should plan for several hours of travel time, as the route passes through rural areas and smaller settlements.
The Turya River flows near the center and creates green riverbank zones that residents use for walking. This proximity to water is less common in many industrial settlements of the region and gives the place a more natural character.
