Karpinsk, Administrative town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia
Karpinsk is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast located on the Turya River in the Urals. The settlement spans a considerable area and functions as an administrative and economic center for the surrounding region.
The settlement was founded in 1759 as Bogoslavsk and became a major copper mining center in the Urals. After 1917, it transformed into an important industrial hub under Soviet influence and economic policies.
The town bears the name of mineralogist Alexander Karpinsky and maintains strong connections to regional mining traditions through local museums and exhibitions.
The town has several hotels and guesthouses for visitors, and good road connections link it to neighboring cities in the region. Once you get oriented, most places are fairly easy to reach on foot or by local transport.
From 1945 to 1949, the area housed a labor camp where Soviet Germans and German civilians worked in coal mining. This overlooked chapter reveals the region's role in post-war Soviet labor policies.
