Borisoglebsk, Regional center in Voronezh Oblast, Russia
Borisoglebsk sits on the left bank of the Vorona River where it meets the Khoper River, at about 100 meters (330 feet) above sea level in Voronezh Oblast. The town stretches along both rivers and is connected by bridges, with residential areas spreading between green spaces and industrial zones.
In 1646 a fortress was built here for protection against raids from the south as Russia expanded its borders. During the 19th century the settlement developed into a major grain collection point for southwestern regions and grew economically through this trade.
The name comes from the Christian saints Boris and Gleb, whose veneration has been maintained here since the 17th century founding. Several religious buildings in town still show this tradition today and shape the cityscape through their architecture.
Streets mostly run parallel to the rivers and make it easier to find your way around when crossing town. From the train station you can reach the center on foot in about twenty minutes along the main road.
A brewery from 1870 has been producing drinks here for over 150 years and counts among the oldest operations of its kind in Russia. The facility still makes both beer and soft drinks today and remains in operation.
