Vyshny Volochyok, Administrative town in Tver Oblast, Russia
Vyshny Volochyok is a town in Tver Oblast, northwestern Russia, positioned in the Valdai Hills between two rivers. The settlement spreads across several natural waterways connected by numerous bridges.
The artificial waterway was built in the early years of the 18th century as part of a trade route between northern and central Russia. Engineers under Peter the Great connected the two river systems to ease the transport of goods.
The House of Pictorial Art, established in 1884, functions as a field facility for the Union of Russian Artists, teaching traditional Russian landscape painting.
The town is accessible by rail and road from Moscow and Saint Petersburg, with regular connections available. The many bridges throughout the settlement make crossing the waterways on foot or by car straightforward.
A museum displays traditional felt boots in different sizes and colors, including an oversized example. Local craftspeople still maintain this centuries-old technique in small workshops.
