Noyabrsk, Industrial city in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia.
Noyabrsk is a city in the Yamalo-Nenets region of Russia, situated on the West Siberian Plain amid taiga forests and wetlands shaped by permafrost. The settlement rests on flat terrain dotted with shallow lakes and crossed by small rivers that feed into the larger Ob basin.
The city came into being in 1976 when Soviet engineers began developing oil fields in the region and built housing for workers. The name refers to November, the month when the first railway crews arrived and started laying tracks for the transport network.
The city maintains educational centers, sports facilities, and the Archangel Michael Church, reflecting a mix of modern Russian and traditional Siberian influences.
The city has two railway stations and an airport located around six kilometers (four miles) west of the center, with flights connecting to Moscow and regional hubs. Visitors should prepare for extreme temperature shifts, as the subarctic climate can bring harsh winter conditions and brief but warm summers.
Winter temperatures can drop to minus 55 degrees Celsius (minus 67 degrees Fahrenheit), while summer can reach 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). This range of 90 degrees (162 degrees Fahrenheit) is among the widest on the planet and shapes daily life throughout the year.
