Orekhovo-Zuyevo

Orekhovo-Zuyevo is an industrial center in Moscow Oblast, situated about 85 kilometers east of the capital. The built-up area stretches along the Klyazma River and is surrounded by extensive forest zones that reach the outer edges of town.

Three separate villages joined together in 1917 to form the present-day town. Textile manufacturing transformed the place into the third largest production center in the country and shaped its further development.

The name combines two former settlements and still reminds people of the time before they joined together. Football plays a big role for residents, visible in the lively support for teams and the presence of sports grounds across the urban landscape.

Several stadiums and sports facilities are spread across the urban area and offer opportunities for exercise and leisure activities. The main streets and roads follow the course of the river, which makes orientation easier.

In 1885, a major labor action took place at the Morozov textile mills, remembered as the first significant strike in Russian history. The events led to important changes in labor legislation across the country.
