Samara Bend

Samara Bend is a natural loop where the Volga River wraps around the Zhiguli Mountains in southwestern Russia. The landscape includes meadows, forests, and steep cliffs that rise along the curve's inner edge.

The area was settled by early peoples whose presence dates back about 7000 years. Archaeological digs have uncovered pottery and settlement remains from these ancient times.

The region holds traces of ancient communities who lived along these waters thousands of years ago. Walking through the area, you can sense the long human presence that shaped this bend.

You can enter the National Park through several access points with marked trails throughout the area. Wear sturdy shoes, as paths are uneven and some sections are steep.

This is where the European steppe reaches its furthest north and different habitats meet in one place. The location creates an unusual mix of plant and animal life rarely found together elsewhere.
