Dombarovsky, military airbase near Yasny in Russia's Orenburg Oblast
Dombarovsky is a military facility with missile silos and a launch complex located in Orenburg Oblast, about 5 kilometers from the town of Yasny. The site spreads across open steppe with concrete runways, underground tunnels, and functional buildings designed to support both missile operations and satellite launches.
The facility was built in the early 1950s during the Soviet era, initially serving as an air base with fighter squadrons like the 412th Fighter Aviation Regiment. From the mid-1960s onward, missile silo complexes were developed to house intercontinental rockets, and the base became home to the 13th Strategic Rocket Forces division.
The facility takes its name from the nearby village and represents a center of technological work for the region. Today, both military personnel and space program teams use the same infrastructure, showing how a single site serves different purposes while maintaining focus on precision and coordination.
The site is a restricted military area with security checkpoints and fencing, making public access impossible. The nearest towns are Yasny and Dombarovsky, with Yasny offering railway connections and the surrounding area consisting of agricultural land and open steppe.
Originally built as an air base, the complex was transformed into a missile installation by the mid-1960s and could operate up to 64 simultaneously active silos with intercontinental rockets. Since 2006, the modernized facility has also been used for launching satellites under the commercial space program Kosmotras.
