Kaliningrad Devau Airport, Regional cultural heritage site in Kaliningrad, Russia.
Kaliningrad Devau Airport is a former airport whose terminal building was designed by architect Hanns Hopp, located roughly 3.5 kilometers northeast of the city center. The site preserves sections of its original structure and currently hosts the Kaliningrad Sport Aviation Club.
The airport opened in 1921 after the creation of the Polish corridor, which separated East Prussia from Germany and made air travel essential for connections. This situation prompted rapid development of aviation infrastructure in the region.
The main terminal reflects how aviation mattered to the region in the early twentieth century. The building itself shows the architectural style of that era and demonstrates the way people valued fast connections.
The site contains sections of restored and original structures that show how airport facilities looked in that era, so visitors can see both old and new elements. It is best to check in advance about current access and activities at the aviation club before planning a visit.
In 1922, the first international air service to the Soviet Union was established here, connecting Berlin, Königsberg, and Moscow through the Deruluft airline. This route demonstrated how quickly aviation expanded after the war and bridged new political divisions.
