Simferopol International Airport, Regional airport in Simferopol, Russia.
Simferopol International Airport is an airport on the Crimean Peninsula serving domestic and international flights. The main terminal includes several check-in halls, baggage claim areas, and waiting lounges for arriving and departing passengers.
The airport was founded in 1936 and received major improvements in 1957, including a concrete runway. During the 1980s, it served as an alternate landing site for the Soviet space shuttle program.
The terminal displays numerous art pieces and architectural elements that reflect the regional heritage of Crimea and the Black Sea region.
Trolleybuses and express buses connect the airport regularly to the city center of Simferopol. The journey to the city takes around half an hour depending on traffic conditions.
The runway was extended to almost 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) during the Buran space shuttle program. This length allowed spacecraft to land under special conditions.
