Lutherkirche, Protestant church in Haberberg district, Kaliningrad, Russia
Lutherkirche was a Renaissance and Baroque-style church built between 1907 and 1910 at the Viehmarkt marketplace. Architect Friedrich Heitmann designed it with distinctive style features that defined its facade and interior spaces.
The building was constructed in the early 1900s and survived the bombing of Königsberg in 1944 and the battle for the city in 1945. Soviet administration later demolished it in 1976, removing an important architectural piece from the region's history.
The church served as a gathering place for the local Protestant German-speaking community and shaped the religious life of the Haberberg district. Residents came here for worship and celebrations, making it a center of neighborhood identity.
The site was located at the Viehmarkt near the harbor in central Königsberg, making it easily accessible to residents. The area is now part of Kaliningrad, and visitors can explore the history of the location through archival photographs and historical records.
Photographs from 1960 to 1976 document the church's condition before demolition, showing how the building survived despite wartime damage. These visual records are now important sources for understanding Königsberg's architectural history.
