Peter the Great Statue, Naval monument near Moskva River, Russia
The Peter the Great Statue stands 98 meters tall, constructed from stainless steel, bronze, and copper on an artificial island in central Moscow.
The monument, completed in 1997, started as a design for Christopher Columbus before being transformed into Peter the Great by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli.
The statue represents Peter the Great holding a gilded scroll, positioned above bronze ships with cannons that create water effects at the base.
Internal maintenance stairs provide access throughout the structure, while the reinforced concrete base supports the eighth tallest statue in the world.
The statue's sails incorporate advanced materials developed for space technology to minimize the overall weight of this massive naval tribute.
