Fallen Monument Park, Sculpture garden and monument park near Central House of Artists, Moscow, Russia
Fallen Monument Park is a sculpture garden and open-air museum beside the Central House of Artists on the Moscow River, where more than 600 works stand outdoors. The collection includes Soviet monuments, contemporary installations, and bronze figures arranged along walkways between trees and grass areas.
The city established the site in the early 1990s as a repository for removed monuments when many statues came down from their original pedestals following political shifts. New sculptures joined over the years, expanding the collection beyond the initial Soviet figures.
The grounds bring together works removed from Moscow's public squares after the Soviet era ended, now displayed outdoors alongside newer Russian pieces. Visitors see statues of political leaders next to abstract forms, making different chapters of Russian art visible in a single space.
The grounds lie between Park Kultury and Oktyabrskaya metro stations and remain accessible around the clock, allowing visitors to come at any hour. Daylight offers the best conditions for reading inscriptions and examining sculpture details, while the paths are wide enough for a leisurely walk.
One of the larger bronze heads belongs to a monument that stood on Lubyanka Square for decades before being lifted by crane in 1991. Some pedestals still carry original inscriptions recalling the earlier locations of the statues.
