Vygozero, lake in Russia
Vygozero is a large reservoir in Karelia formed by damming, situated within dense forests and rolling terrain. The water connects with a network of rivers and smaller water bodies that feed the regional hydroelectric system.
The reservoir was created in the 1920s when the first dam was built as part of early Soviet industrialization and electrification efforts. Later dams expanded the water system to support growing hydroelectric production.
The water can be accessible in warmer months, but shores are often forested and not always easy to reach. It is advisable to consult a local guide or knowledgeable person to find safe and suitable access points.
