The Saint Petersburg Botanical Garden maintains 25 greenhouses that house collections of azaleas, ferns, cacti, tropical plants, orchids, and water lilies.
Peter I established the garden in 1714 as an Apothecary Garden for medicinal plants, later transforming it into the Imperial Botanical Garden in 1823.
The garden serves as a center for botanical research under the Russian Academy of Sciences, contributing to plant studies and preservation efforts.
The garden operates Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, with separate admission fees for the park, dendrarium, and museum sections.
The garden cultivates the Moonlight cactus Selenicereus grandiflorus since 1824, making it one of the oldest living specimens in the collection.
