Saint Petersburg TV Tower, Television tower on Aptekarskaya Avenue, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The Saint Petersburg TV Tower is a steel lattice transmitter mast standing 326 m (1,070 ft) tall in the north of the city. Painted in red and white stripes, it broadcasts television and radio signals across the wider metropolitan region.
The tower was built in the early 1960s and opened in 1963, as part of Soviet efforts to expand the broadcasting network. It was the first structure in the region built specifically to transmit television and radio signals.
The tower functions as a visual landmark that helps locals navigate their surroundings and recognize different neighborhoods. For residents, spotting it across the skyline has become a natural part of how they understand the city's layout.
The tower is visible from many parts of the city and can help with orientation when exploring. It sits in the northern part of the city, so approaching from that direction gives the clearest view.
Inside the tower, there is an observation platform at 191 m (626 ft) that looks out over the flat landscape surrounding the city. Few visitors know about it, so it tends to be much quieter than other high viewpoints in Saint Petersburg.
