Suksun, Work settlement in Perm Krai, Russia
Suksun is a work settlement in Perm Krai situated on the left bank of the Sylva River. The area extends across valleys and hills surrounded by pine forests, with a pond at its center.
The settlement was founded in 1651 and rose to importance when Akinfiy Demidov built copper smelting and iron works between 1727 and 1729. These industrial facilities transformed it into a major production center.
The settlement has a strong tradition of metalworking, especially samovar production, which shaped its identity for centuries. This craft heritage remains visible in the local artisanal practices and cultural memory.
Visitors can reach the nearby Kluchi resort, which offers mineral spring treatments and therapeutic mud applications. Summer is the best season for travel, when paths are dry and the forests are accessible.
The first Russian steamship with an iron hull, the Nikita Demidov, was built here during the industrial period. This vessel marked a milestone in Russian maritime engineering.
