Kivach Nature Reserve

Kivach Nature Reserve is a protected area in Karelia that stretches across coniferous forests, small lakes, and rocky terrain along the Suna river. The landscape features undisturbed woodland habitats and numerous water bodies that define the local ecosystem.

The reserve was established in 1931 as one of the Soviet Union's earliest conservation projects. This founding reflected the state's growing interest in protecting northern forest landscapes from human alteration.
