Abrau, Natural monument near Novorossiysk, Russia.
Abrau is a body of water in Krasnodar Krai that extends roughly 2.6 kilometers in length and about 600 meters in width. It sits among gentle hills in the Forecaucasus at an elevation of around 84 meters above sea level.
The depth of the water body has changed over time, decreasing from about 35 meters in the early 20th century to around 20 meters today. This shift shows how the basin has gradually transformed.
The village sharing its name with the water body developed around wine cellars that still produce sparkling wine using traditional methods. Visitors can tour the cellars and see how winemaking traditions continue after more than a century of production.
During summer, visitors can swim in the water or rent boats to navigate the surface. Equipment is available throughout the warmer months.
The water body has no natural outlet and collects all its water within the basin. This characteristic makes it the largest standing water in Krasnodar Krai.
