Myrmekion, Archaeological site in Kerch, Russia
The ruins of Myrmekion extend across 8 hectares on Cape Karantinny, featuring remains of defensive walls, residential quarters, and ancient wineries.
Founded by Ionian Greeks in the mid-6th century BCE, Myrmekion developed into a significant settlement within the Bosporan Kingdom until the 3rd century CE.
The excavated sanctuary dedicated to Demeter contained numerous artifacts, including terracotta figurines, ritual vessels, and religious offerings from ancient inhabitants.
The archaeological site maintains regular visiting hours from April through October, with guided tours available in Russian and English languages.
In 2022, archaeologists discovered a cache of 30 gold coins from the era of Alexander the Great, representing the largest such find in the Bosporan Kingdom.
