Yusupov Palace on Moika, Noble palace on Moika River, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Yusupov Palace on Moika is an early 19th-century noble residence on the bank of the Moyka Canal in Saint Petersburg. The interior features richly decorated halls with stucco and gilded details, a small theater with a stage and boxes, and several reception rooms in different styles.
The Yusupov family acquired the building in the early 19th century and transformed it into one of the city's most elegant noble residences. After the 1917 Revolution it was nationalized and later opened as a museum that shows the interiors and life of the Russian aristocracy.
The palace preserves the setting of a noble Russian residence where receptions and social events took place. Visitors today can walk through rooms that once welcomed guests from across Europe and where the family displayed their art collection.
The palace is open daily and offers guided tours through the historical rooms and the theater hall. It is advisable to book in advance as some areas are accessible only with a guide and visitor numbers are higher on weekends.
The palace basement contains the site where Grigori Rasputin was murdered in December 1916. This room is now recreated with wax figures and shows the events of that night through a historical reconstruction.
