Nikolskaya Tower, Gate tower at Red Square in Moscow, Russia
The Nikolskaya Tower stands 70 meters tall on the eastern wall of Moscow Kremlin, featuring white stone turrets and a ruby star at its summit.
Italian architect Pietro Antonio Solari completed the construction of this defensive structure in 1491, which later endured damage during both Napoleon's invasion and the Revolution.
The tower received its name from the icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker of Mozhaysk, displayed above its entrance facing the Red Square.
Visitors can access the Kremlin grounds through the tower's passage, which connects the Red Square with the internal territory of the fortress.
The tower maintains an original iron grate and stone bastion from the medieval period, when it protected the entrance to boyar estates within the Kremlin.
