Kauchuk Factory Club, Constructivist clubhouse in Khamovniki District, Russia
The Kauchuk Factory Club is a clubhouse with a distinctive curved structure at the intersection near Devichye Pole park. Inside, there is a theatre hall with seating for around 800 people, complemented by two levels of gallery balconies.
The building was completed in 1929 as part of a nationwide effort to create modern gathering spaces in the post-revolutionary period. It replaced traditional religious meeting places with new venues designed for cultural activities.
The design was created to draw workers in through appealing spaces rather than forcing participation. The open layout encourages natural gathering and spontaneous interaction among visitors.
The building has exterior stairs that serve as emergency exits leading to the upper level and facilitate movement inside. The main entrance provides access to the central performance area with clear views of the stage and hall spaces.
The quarter-cylinder shape of the structure creates natural sight lines that guide visitors automatically toward the center. This curved form was deliberately used to optimize how people move through and perceive the space.
