Eagle Tower, Fortified tower in Smolensk, Russia
The Eagle Tower stands as a polygonal structure within the defensive walls of Smolensk Kremlin, featuring thick stone walls and military architectural elements.
Built between 1595 and 1602 during the reigns of Tsar Feodor I and Boris Godunov, the tower formed part of a 6.5-kilometer defensive system.
The tower represents Russian medieval military engineering and serves as a federal cultural heritage site, preserving centuries of architectural history.
Visitors can reach the Eagle Tower through Timiryazev Street, where the western section of the fortification wall remains in good condition.
The tower survived Napoleon's invasion in 1812 and World War II, maintaining its original structure despite extensive damage to surrounding fortifications.
