Bayan-Under

Bayan-Under is an archaeological site featuring a rectangular fortification with two earth ramparts and a surrounding moat that enclose a central raised platform. The layout shows the clear structure of an ancient defended settlement with visible defensive features throughout the grounds.

The settlement was built around 2000 years ago by the Xiongnu people as a fortified strategic outpost. Its defensive walls were constructed from compacted earth and river sand, typical of construction methods from that era.

The site reveals how people organized their living spaces within the fortified settlement, with structures designed for practical daily use. Visitors can observe the remains of buildings that show evidence of thoughtful construction and domestic arrangement.

Access to the site is gained through marked paths starting from the nearby village of Dyrestuy. Visitors should be aware that ongoing scientific work takes place at the location, which may affect visiting conditions.

One of the inner buildings contained a sophisticated heating system with a hearth and chimney, revealing advanced architectural knowledge of the period. Discoveries of white bronze mirrors suggest these objects held ceremonial importance in burial practices of the time.
