Balagan-Tas, Stratovolcano in Sakha Republic, Russia.
Balagan-Tas is a dormant volcano in the Chersky Range in the Sakha Republic. The mountain stands in a remote part of eastern Siberia with volcanic features still visible on its slopes and surrounding terrain.
The volcano was first documented in 1939 when V.A. Zimin identified it during an expedition. It became an important geological feature within the Moma Natural Park in the Russian Far East.
Local Yakut people have named this geological formation Balagan-Tas, which translates differently in their native language than in Russian.
Access requires special equipment and permits because of the volcano's remote mountain location. Visitors should prepare for harsh weather and challenging terrain that changes with the seasons.
Multiple lava flows from this volcano spread across the surrounding landscape and created thick deposits of volcanic rock. These formations give visitors a rare glimpse into the raw geological power that shaped this remote corner of Siberia.
