Volzhsko-Kamsky Nature Reserve

The reserve spans 10,091 hectares across two separate sections, Saralinsky and Raifsky, featuring forests, wetlands, and meadows along the Volga River terraces.

Established in 1960 to protect undisturbed forest and forest-steppe ecosystems of the middle Volga region, the reserve received UNESCO Biosphere status in 2005.

The reserve maintains research facilities and educational programs where students and scientists study natural processes of regional ecosystems throughout the seasons.

The reserve contains a small 11-room hotel, marked trails for visitors, and a dedicated scientific department monitoring wildlife populations through fixed observation points.

The reserve hosts 844 vascular plant species, 195 bird species, and contains the largest arboretum in the Volga region with 500 tree species.
