Vorontsovo estate, Historic manor park in Obruchevsky District, Moscow, Russia
Vorontsovo is a historic manor in Obruchevsky District, Moscow, Russia, with ponds, old trees, and buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The grounds spread over a wide area with several levels and connected bodies of water accessible by paths and bridges.
The estate began in the 14th century and first belonged to the Vorontsov boyar family. Later it passed to other noble families like the Repnins, who added new structures and expanded the grounds.
The name comes from a boyar family who lived here in medieval times, and the grounds still show their noble influence today. Visitors see buildings and features shaped by different owners over the centuries.
You can reach the grounds on foot from Kaluzhskaya metro station in about 20 minutes. In winter there are ice skating and sledding options on the park grounds.
During the war against Napoleon in 1812 the estate was secretly used to make military hot air balloons. The prototype was burned when French troops came close.
