Губкинское нефтегазоконденсатное месторождение, Oil and gas condensate field in Purovsky District, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia
Gubkinskoye is an oil and gas condensate field in Western Siberia, located on flat-hilly terrain with marshes and lakes scattered throughout the landscape. The field contains substantial reserves and operates through various production facilities and infrastructure networks.
The field was discovered in 1965 when an exploratory well unexpectedly produced a massive gas fountain that proved difficult to control for months afterward. This dramatic discovery led to systematic development of the resources in this remote region.
The field development created numerous settlements in the region, transforming the local demographics and establishing new industrial communities.
The area is accessible only to specialized personnel and authorized workers due to its remote location and the region's extreme climate conditions. Visitors should be aware of the harsh environmental conditions and strict safety requirements.
The initial gas fountain took over six months to control, requiring multiple attempts with different solutions until final containment in August 1965.
