Музей Сталина, Political museum in Kureika, Russia
The Stalin Museum in Kureika is a museum in the remote village of Kureika, in the Turukhansky District of Siberia, Russia. It was built around a small wooden cabin believed to be Stalin's original dwelling, enclosed within a larger protective pavilion fitted with triple-glazed windows and a heating system.
Stalin was sent to Kureika as a political exile by the tsarist regime and lived there from 1914 to 1916. A museum opened on the site in 1938, but it was closed after de-Stalinization in the 1960s and its collections were removed.
During its years of operation, passenger ships on the Yenisei River were required to stop here, and formal ceremonies were held on board. Young people were inducted into communist youth organizations during these stops.
Kureika is a very remote village in Siberia, accessible only by river or air, so planning the journey in advance is essential. Facilities on site are minimal, and visitors should come well prepared for isolated conditions.
Some objects from the museum were kept by local residents after its closure, including a woven basket said to date from the exile period. The building itself fell into disrepair after being shut down and is no longer fully standing.
