Krasnye Kamny

Krasnye Kamny is a protected area near Norilsk featuring two mountains rising about 600 meters with distinctive red-brown volcanic rock walls. These peaks form a horseshoe shape, creating a striking geological formation in the Arctic landscape.

The area gained protected status in 1981, reflecting Russia's commitment to preserving the natural resources of the Far North. This designation acknowledged the ecological importance of the plateau and its fragile Arctic ecosystems.

The Evenk people have long inhabited these northern lands and continue to maintain deep connections to the landscape. Their presence shapes the cultural identity of the region even today.

The area offers year-round opportunities for hiking, climbing, and nature photography in an alpine setting. Visitors should prepare for extreme weather conditions and bring proper equipment, as the region is remote and rugged.

Even during summer months, the lakes maintain substantial ice formations, creating an exceptional Arctic phenomenon. This feature makes the area a rare example of the extreme conditions found on the high plateau.
