Obskaya–Bovanenkovo Line

The Obskaya-Bovanenkovo Line connects Obskaya station to gas production areas in the Yamal Peninsula, covering roughly 572 kilometers through Arctic terrain. The route was built specifically to move supplies and materials from the remote gas fields to the south.

Gazprom began building this railway in 2004 to open up access to gas fields in the Yamal region. The main section reached completion in 2010, with a further extension finished the following year.

The railway represents Russian engineering achievement in one of the world's harshest climates, where every structure must adapt to frozen ground that shifts with the seasons. Visitors witness these adaptations throughout the route, from the track bed to bridge designs.

This route runs through one of Russia's most remote and coldest regions, so travel here requires careful preparation. The terrain is difficult to reach, and extreme weather dominates most of the year.

The Yuribey Bridge is a remarkable structure that spans several kilometers using a special load-sharing system designed to remain stable despite constant ground movement. This engineering solution allows the bridge to function reliably for over 100 years, even as the frozen soil beneath it undergoes seasonal changes.
