Prirazlomnaya

Prirazlomnaya is an oil platform located in the Pechora Sea off Russia's Arctic coast. The facility uses fixed drilling structures and onsite storage tanks to extract and temporarily hold crude oil before it is transferred to transport vessels.

Construction began in 2009 under Gazprom's direction, with the first commercial production starting in late 2013. This marked the beginning of Russia's Arctic shelf oil extraction industry.

The platform operations influence native Arctic communities and generate discussions about environmental protection measures in the Russian northern territories.

The platform is not open to visitors and sits far offshore in open waters. It operates year-round with automated systems in extreme cold and harsh sea conditions.

The structure features a 3-meter-thick concrete base covered with corrosion-resistant steel that keeps the platform stable through extreme temperatures and ice movement. This design allows it to operate without external support structures.
