Обелиск Победы в Нарьян-Маре

The Victory Obelisk in Naryan-Mar is an asymmetrical concrete structure that rises in the city center, displaying the years 1941-1945 and the Order of the Patriotic War. An eternal flame set in a cast-iron star crowns the memorial and marks the focal point of the surrounding area.

The memorial was inaugurated on May 9, 1965, and contains a capsule with the names of 3000 residents from the Nenets region who died during World War II. The structure underwent major reconstruction in 1982, when its original design elements were modified.

The memorial serves as a central gathering place for local Victory Day ceremonies, where residents come together to honor soldiers from the region. It holds deep meaning for the community as a reminder of the sacrifices made by people from Naryan-Mar during the war years.

The memorial is located on Pobedy Street in the city center and is easily reached on foot from nearby areas. The site becomes particularly busy during commemorative holidays, so early morning or evening visits offer a quieter experience.

The structure originally featured a white-painted hand holding a torch, a distinctive element removed during the 1982 renovation. This change reflects how memorials evolve over time and are adapted to different visions.
