Timiryazev Museum, Biology museum in Presnensky District, Russia
The Timiryazev Museum is a biology museum housed in two red brick buildings with traditional Russian architectural features and decorative tiles. Inside, rooms display preserved animal specimens, insects, corals, and mollusks collected from different parts of the world.
The museum was founded in 1922 from collections of the Living Nature Museum at Moscow Public University. It moved to a former merchant's estate in 1934 and grew into a major repository for biological collections and research.
The collection includes 60,000 exhibits, featuring anthropological sculptures, biological specimens, insect collections, corals, mollusks, and scientific illustrations.
The museum is accessible and designed for visitors to explore and interact with displays at their own pace. Plan enough time to wander through all sections comfortably, especially the interactive stations where you can engage directly with the exhibits.
A special exhibit called 'Look Both Ways' lets visitors see the world through the eyes of different animals, from insects to birds, revealing how perception varies across species. This interactive station shows just how different animal vision can be from human sight.
