St George's Hall and Apollo Room of the Winter Palace, Throne room in Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

St George's Hall is a throne room in the Winter Palace with brilliantly white marble walls and extensive gold decoration throughout. The adjoining Apollo Room creates a passageway that links this space to the museum galleries beyond.

The hall burned completely in 1837 and was rebuilt by architect Vasily Stasov in neoclassical style afterward. The reconstruction reflected 19th century design ideas applied to imperial architecture.

The room served as a setting where the imperial court gathered for official ceremonies and state functions. The golden decorations and soaring ceilings reflect the power and wealth that once centered here.

Access requires visiting as part of a guided tour through the Hermitage Museum, available Tuesday through Sunday. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since the museum covers a large area to explore.

The ceiling of the Apollo Room displays intricate stucco work created by craftspeople in the 1830s. These fine details are often overlooked by visitors despite their visual impact.
