Dom veteranov Stseny, Building complex for stage veterans in Petrogradsky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Dom veteranov Stseny is a residential complex in the Petrogradsky District of Saint Petersburg, made up of several connected buildings with towers, pitched roofs, and Gothic details on their facades. The grounds bring together housing, medical facilities, and open green areas arranged around a shared plot.
The complex was built around 1900 as a purpose-built home for aging theater professionals and was designed by architect M.F. Geisler. Over the following decades, successive architects expanded and reworked the buildings until they reached their current form by the mid-20th century.
The complex is closely tied to the theater world of Saint Petersburg and still houses retired stage performers today. Walking through the grounds gives a sense of a tightly knit community shaped by a shared life in the performing arts.
The complex sits on Petrovskiy Prospekt and can be seen from the street, but since it is primarily a residential site, access to the buildings and courtyards is restricted. Checking conditions before visiting is a good idea, as entry to the grounds may require prior arrangement.
The grounds hold the gravestone of actress M.G. Savina, who first pushed for the creation of a home for aging stage performers. Her personal drive at the start of the 20th century is what directly brought this place into being.
