Lezhnino Lake is a freshwater lake in Pizhansky District, in the Kirov Oblast of Russia, and is recognized as a protected natural area. It sits within a flat, forested landscape typical of this part of the country, with wooded banks and open water that can be seen from the surrounding terrain.
The area around this lake was long inhabited by Mari people before it was absorbed into the Russian Empire. Over time, the lake was drawn into the official Russian administrative framework and eventually given protected status.
The lake carries two names: the Russian Lezhnino and the Mari Lezhnin kuelli, reflecting the presence of the Mari people in this part of Russia. Visitors who pay attention may notice both forms used in local signs or conversation.
The warmer months offer the most reliable conditions for reaching the lake, as unpaved roads in the area can be difficult in wet or cold weather. It is worth asking locally about the current state of access tracks before heading out, especially if coming from the district center.
