Medved kamen

Medved Kamen is a mountain summit featuring a massive cliff that drops toward the Tagil River and rises 294 meters above sea level. A metal triangulation tower crowns the peak, offering views across the river valley and toward neighboring peaks in the landscape.

Archaeological excavations led by O.N. Bader uncovered evidence that people lived near this mountain during prehistoric times in the Pleistocene epoch. These findings show that human settlement in the area stretches back thousands of years into the distant past.

The Mansi indigenous people called this place Elping-Kue, which means Holy Stone, and held it sacred in their spiritual life. Local communities have long recognized the site as a meaningful landmark tied to the natural and cultural history of the region.

Wear sturdy footwear when climbing, as the ascent becomes steep and rocky, especially near the summit. The observation points at the tower offer the clearest views of the river valley and surrounding landscape.

The syenite rocks inside the mountain display a surprising pink color, while the weathered exterior appears brown from exposure. This striking color difference reveals what lies beneath the surface when viewed from freshly exposed areas.
