Sorochinskoe Reservoir, reservoir in Russia
Sorochinskoe Reservoir is a large artificial water body in Orenburg Oblast, fed by the Samara and Bolshoy Uran rivers. It has a maximum depth of around 13 meters and rocky banks suitable for various water activities.
Construction of the reservoir began in 1968 as a response to water supply needs and flood control along the Samara River, though the project faced delays over several years. It opened for use in 1994 and has since served agricultural and local water needs for the region.
The area has no hotels, shops, or tourist facilities, so bring food, water, and supplies in advance and plan to camp if staying overnight. Access is only by private vehicle or taxi since public transportation does not serve the location.
The water is fed by two rivers and supports populations of pike, perch, carp, bream, burbot, ruffe, and occasionally catfish that anglers seek year-round. Swans sometimes arrive during summer and early autumn months, adding another layer of wildlife to observe.
